Los Naranjos

Los Naranjos is one of Spain’s best golf courses. World famous golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. considered it one of his finest European designs and it is indeed a true Championship course.
Measuring 6500 meters from the professional tees it features wide fairways, strategically placed hazards and large undulating greens. Suitable for all levels of players, Los Naranjos is firmly established as one of Spain’s most popular golf courses, welcoming visitors all year round.
Flamingos
Thursday, September 4th, 2008 | Flamingos | No Comments
The Flamingos Golf course, par 71, was designed by the arquitect Dr.Antonio García Garrido. The surroundings of its 5.714 metres are spectacular. Flamingos Golf was one of the few courses to open with one of the most prestigious tournaments of the European Senior PGA, the 2002 Championship Final. This important competition was repeated in 2003 and 2004.
Situated in an environment of incomparable beauty next to the Mediterranean Sea, it is among the most exclusive courses on the Costa del Sol.
What we say….
Flamingos is a fine test of golf. A well manicured course with a good mix of water, sand tightness and width. A tad tight for the more wayward but if you know when to play percentage golf and when to open the shoulders you should be OK.
The New course “Gran Flamingos” is carved out of the valley behind the hotel. Nine of these holes require straight hitting and the other nine are forgiving enough. Great greens and the clubhouse & hotel are only sumptuous. Pricey in high season but great value off peak.

Calanova
Thursday, September 4th, 2008 | Calanova | 1 Comment
With a par of 72, this USGA specification design stretches to 5,866 metres and is, from purely a design point of view, a leader in its field. The greens have an average surface area of over 5,400 square feet and boasts large undulations and swales, providing a great experience for all players. The fairways are varied from one hole to another and have great width in the ball landing areas allowing views of the hazards before striking the ball.– it is anything but dull. “
What we say….
A recent and welcome addition to the mid-prices category of course offering the all important year-round buggy included. We wish more hilly clubs would follow their example. Fairways are wide given the hilly setting and the greens excellent. Note the warm welcome afforded by Calanova - they seem to value golfers in Calanova which goes a long way to compensate for the temporary club-house facility.

Almenara
Thursday, September 4th, 2008 | Almenara | No Comments
Almenara Golf Club. Course of 27 holes with three different layouts. Located in the heart of Sotogrande, the most exclusive development in Andalusia. Designed by the mythic golf player Dave Thomas, has just experimented an important and qualitative refurbishment who has make elevate of category whose layout goes by a natural landscape between two big lakes surrounded of pines and cork trees. The Greens are immaculate!
What we say….
We like Almenara. Wedged between Valderrama and La Reserva you feel you are in a place where they know about golf. Almenara offers good value and with the all important third 9 the options are greater. All 3 nines are offer distinctly different challenges - water, pine trees or Cork trees. If Almenara was near Marbella the green fee would be double what it is so we advise you to make the journey and feel the open spaces of Almenara uncluttered by real-estate (well, relatively uncluttered). Great 5 star hotel & Spa.

San Roque Club
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | , San Roque Club | 1 Comment
Home of the European Tour Qualifying School Finals for the last 14 years as well as hosts of the Spanish Open (2005 & 2006), The San Roque Club offers 2 courses which are as fun to play as they are beautiful, all within a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Designed by the legendary Dave Thomas, The Old Course is the pride of the club and is rated amongst the finest courses in Europe. With its length of 6494m it features beautiful cork oak woods on the front 9 and stunning water hazards on the back 9 holes. This championship course is fun to play whether you are a low or high handicap player.
The New Course - 6626 m - aims to complement The Old Course, while presenting a very different challenge. The designs, by the renowned American course designer Perry Dye, incorporate the contours of the San Roque hills, giving golfers wonderful views to the Guadalquiton River and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.
Away from the greens, The San Roque Club also offers an authentic Japanese Restaurant, 2-tiered driving range and Golf Academy, Club Membership and a lively bar which makes the best Pimms on the Coast!
What We Say……
The discerning and regular golfer to the Costa will always return to The San Roque Club. Not because it has hosted prestigious tournaments to beat the band but because the design and lay out of the Old Course is indeed one of Spain’s best. A fair challenge of golf for the average golfer and if the low handicappers want more, well, they need only step back to the white tees.
Apart from the quality of the course there is a tranquil and pampered aura about The San Roque Club which means that you don’t rush away from it but tend to languish in its comfortable and pleasant surrounds.
The new course is a trickier affair – long and tight in places and with a reputation for great greens. It has a few blind shots meaning that you’ll certainly score better on your second time round.
Both courses offer great off-peak value.

La Cala Resort – Ideal Golfers’ Location
La Cala Resort boasts three 18-hole championship courses designed by the renowned Cabell Robinson, a star pupil of the legendary Robert Trent Jones. It also has a top quality six-hole par 3 layout that is attached to the only David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Spain. With a five-star hotel and properties to rent, the visiting player or group need never leave the resort to enjoy a varied and thoroughly enjoyable golfing experience.
What We Say….
La Cala are modest in their description above - this must surely be Europe’s most complete and integrated golf resort. The 3 courses while hilly in nature offer 3 distinctly differing challenges. The South (Asia) course is the tightest and probably the least forgiving. The North (Europe) is more open and longer offering some real tough challenges. The greens are small and there are a good few elevated tee-boxes. Take time to stop and absorb the surrounding countryside which can be spectacular. The new Europe course is the most comfortable of the 3 courses. It twists its way over the Ojen River on more than a few occasions.
There is a rarefied atmosphere up in La Cala which is a place where golfers feel in their element. The entire emphasis of this resort is focused on golf and Europe’s golfers keeping coming back year in year out to absorb this unique experience which is La Cala.

THE ROOM WAS FULL OF PREGNANT WOMEN WITH THEIR PARTNERS.
THE LAMAZE CLASS WAS IN FULL SWING.
THE INSTRUCTOR WAS TEACHING THE WOMEN HOW TO BREATHE
PROPERLY AND TELLING THE MEN HOW TO GIVE THE NECESSARY
ASSURANCE TO THEIR PARTNERS AT THIS STAGE OF THE PREGNANCY.
SHE SAID ‘ LADIES, REMEMBER THAT EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR YOU.
WALKING IS ESPECIALLY BENEFICIAL. IT STRENGTHENS THE
PELVIC MUSCLES AND WILL MAKE DELIVERY THAT MUCH EASIER!’
SHE LOOKED AT THE MEN IN THE ROOM, ‘AND GENTLEMEN,
REMEMBER –YOU’RE IN
THIS TOGETHER — IT WOULDN’T HURT YOU TO GO WALKING WITH HER.’
THE ROOM SUDDENLY GOT VERY QUIET AS THE MEN
ABSORBED THIS INFORMATION.
THEN A MAN AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM SLOWLY RAISED HIS HAND.
‘YES?’ ANSWERED THE TEACHER.
‘I WAS JUST WONDERING;
IS IT ALL RIGHT IF SHE CARRIES A GOLF BAG WHILE WE WALK?’

#1 Best Caddy Comment:
Golfer: ‘That can’t be my ball, it’s too old.’
Caddy: ‘It’s been a long time since we teed off, sir.’
And the old favorite…..is the one about the Golfer who has been slicing off the tee at every hole.
He finally gives up and asks his long suffering caddy if he has seen any obvious problems
to which the caddy replies…. ‘There’s a bit of shit on the end of your club Sir’.
The Golfer picks his club up and cleans the club face at which point the caddy says
‘The other end, Sir’
Los Arqueros
Thursday, August 28th, 2008 | Los Arqueros | No Comments
The best design, Seve Ballesteros, at the best quality-price on the Costa del Sol. Enjoy a challenging and stunning course with enviable mountain setting and magnificent views over Andalucian hills and the Mediterranean.
The Environmental, Health & Safety, and the Quality certificate make it a unique golf course worth playing.
What We Say…..
Seve is not known as a straight hitter of a ball and would probably have lost a few at Los Arqueros. You need to think your way around here and resist the temptation to open the shoulders at every opportunity. There is a pleasingly friendly atmosphere in Los Arqueros and the facilities are top class. We look forward to the new 9 holes which will expand the options. Great value for money all year.

Finca Cortesin

What They Say….
Designed by World famous golf course architect Mr. Cabell Robinson, Finca Cortesín layout is simply spectacular. The main features are the length of the course (6,808 mts.) and the great variety of its natural vegetation which includes olive trees and corks. The 18 holes are unique, since every hole is completely different from each other making the course much more enjoyable.
Technically speaking, it is important to emphasize the following features of the course: it has very wide fairways (up to 50 mts.), the bunkers are beautifully shaped and filled with white marble sand, and it also has high quality tee boxes (every hole has several tee platforms so the player finds them always in perfect shape). But without doubt, the greens are one of Finca Cortesín jewels, all built with gentle undulations and with the possibility of being very fast and challenging.
What We Say…..
Finca Cortesin is the rising star of the Costa’s new generation of courses. It will soon be catapulted onto the world stage with the hosting in 2009-2012 of the revamped Volvo World Masters Match Play Championship. The tiger will be prowling!
Finca Cortesin had a show start while the course bedded in. It is however well a truly now a great course particularly for those who like them long. Off the yellow tees it’s a good challenge and off the whites it requires distance and accuracy. A couple of par 3’s will require heavy metal into a wind! This club is also setting the standard in terms of service. They do all the little things right and you will come away with the feeling that you will return soon. The only slight negative is that the terrain is a tad exposed but for most of the year it’s a warm wind that blows.
